Business as Mission Network:: News and Resources to Turn Good Business into Great MinistryNews, Resources, and Tools to Turn Good Business into Great Ministry

How can we Live a Segmented Life if...

A few weeks ago encouraged me to check out the website of the St. Louis group of Connecting Business Men To Christ (CBMC). When I visited the site an intro flashed up with some interesting statistics. It said "research shows that each day the average business man spends...
  • 10.5 hours serving your company, making your boss, co-workers and company happy.
  • 3.5 hours serving your family, making your wife, kids, parents and even grandparents happy
  • 1.5 hours serving your community, making your neighbors, church members and associations happy
  • 8.5 hours per day sleeping and eating, which isn't enough but you do so you can do the things above..."
How can we afford to separate our work and our faith? We can't afford to keep things segmented. There isn't any leftover time and we can't live being plagued with the the guilt of being unable to give more time to ministry. The real question we need to be challenged with is "How can we take the 10.5 hours of each day and connect our faith to our work?"

You can make your life and faith connect to ministry by starting with a small commitment. Of course, this requires that churches and other ministries design serving opportunities that don't amount to a part-time job. Begin by asking your pastor or a favorite ministry leader how you can help for an hour a week. Once they recover from the fainting spell that inevitably ensues, you'll be on the road to serving in a way that doesn't sacrifice your personal walk, family, and other legitimate commitments.

FYI, you might want to check out the free online service at www.ministryhour.com, which seeks to plug Christian professionals into ministry, starting with an hour a week.
